Sunderland were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw by Walsall yesterday in what is a result that puts them four points behind league leaders Portsmouth.

Yesterday's results makes it two draws in a row for Sunderland and it doesn't get much easier for the Black Cats as they play Barnsley in midweek.

Jack Ross will be hoping to have most of his squad available as we enter the festive period. Unfortunately for the former St Mirren boss, he will be without Max Power who was sent off yesterday making it his third red card of the season.

The red card means that Power is facing a five-match ban and with Lee Cattermole out, Sunderland need summer signing, Dylan McGeouch to return to action as quick as possible.

Following the draw Ross admitted that he had hoped to have McGeouch back for the game yesterday.

The Breakdown

Ever since joining from Hibs over the summer, McGeouch has been an ever present in the side and has played 13 games in the league for Sunderland.

Indeed, the Scot was an integral part of Sunderland putting together a run of nine games unbeaten before the international break.

With Lee Cattermole he had formed a solid midfield duo and as the games come in thick and fast over the next month or so, Ross will be hoping to have the Scott back for selection.

Ross will need as many players available as possible if Sunderland want to keep the pressure on Portsmouth.
