Everton are yet to sign anyone in this transfer window, but that could soon be about to change with bookmakers making the club joint favourites alongside Inter Milan to sign William Carvalho (via Oddschecker).
The Portuguese midfielder is currently valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, but could be available on a free transfer despite having two years remaining on his contract.
As reported by Sky Sports, Carvalho and his Sporting Lisbon team-mates have told their club that they will terminate their contracts after being attacked by a group of supporters last month, so the 26-year-old could be available to join Everton on a free transfer once he finishes his World Cup duties with Portugal.
Signing Carvalho is one thing, but getting him for free would be the coup of the summer. The Portugal international is a strong and powerful midfielder at 6ft 3, yet also possesses the qualities of a good football technician.
As well us breaking up play and stopping the opposition in their tracks, Carvalho is just as capable at recycling possession and starting attacks – he’d be the perfect man for the base of Marco Silva’s midfield.
Morgan Schneiderlin, according to the Daily Star, is one midfielder Everton could move on in the coming weeks and Carvalho would without doubt be a huge upgrade on the Frenchman.
Regardless of what happens with Carvalho’s contract, Everton must absolutely go all out to beat Inter Milan or any other interested party to the signing of the midfielder.
