# Sunderland: The Fans Together ‘moving closer’ to ownership

**Sky Sports journalist Tom White has now revealed some big news involving [Sunderland](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/sunderland-afc-news/).**

### The Lowdown: Change of ownership?

It has been [reported](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/sunderland-afc-news/donald-methven-shares-sold-league-one/) that both Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven would consider selling their shares at the Stadium of Light, while [The Sunderland Echo](https://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/football/sunderland-afc/sunderland-chief-outlines-ownership-latest-at-supporter-collective-meeting-3692674) have claimed that majority shareholder Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is looking to take full control.

However, other outside bidders have not been ruled out which could take hold of the shares instead.

### The Latest: TFT deal

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/tomwhitemedia/status/1534173816083161088), White has revealed that fan ownership group ‘[The Fans Together](https://thefanstogether.io/about)‘ (TFT) are now ‘moving closer’ to a 39% ownership of the Wearside club.

He also shared a [statement](https://twitter.com/tomwhitemedia/status/1534175410187124738) from a spokesperson of the group to confirm that they are in talks with Donald and Methven to acquire their stake, and explained their reasons for wanting to do so.

### The Verdict: Needed

TFT seem to have good intentions with regards to wanting to buy a stake in Sunderland, and given that Donald and Methven do not seem to be committed to the club anymore, a change of ownership in that regard is needed.

Finance expert Kieran Maguire has claimed that the pair have left a “[toxic legacy](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sunderland-toxic-claim-issued-by-maguire-as-11m-deal-on-the-cards/)” after several years in League One, and the club’s promotion to the Championship could offer a new slate.

This is big news for the Black Cats and their supporters, with further developments likely to emerge over the next few weeks.
