# These are the three reasons Lionel Messi would want Tottenham’s crown jewel to join him

**Spurs fans here in the Tavern are growing in concern as their star man has caught the attention of the World’s greatest.**

Tottenham Hotspur have caught the eyes of everyone this season, as their continued rise in form has got many fans dreaming of trophy success.

A Champions League rise that has taken many by surprise, with an inspired squad recently downing Spanish giants Real Madrid. So with first spot in the Champions League looking to be confirmed, who’s to say this Spurs team can’t go all the way?

However, with success comes attention, which will not always be healthy for a side in full flight.

Not many people can say that they’ve caught the attention of the world’s best Lionel Messi, but rising star Dele Alli can reportedly be added to that list, after Spanish website [Don Balon claimed](https://www.donbalon.com/noticia/detalle/70216/messi-pide-dos-jugadores-tottenham-golear-real-madrid) that the Argentinian wants Real Madrid to sign Alli from Spurs. Having scored a brace against their biggest rivals in the shape of *Los Blancos* in recent weeks, it looks as if this attracted some big attention.

But with Messi calling, can you reject that?

All of this came about after Barcelona were keen to see the back of Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic, as he struggles for game time under Ernesto Valverde.

Having been linked with Philippe Coutinho in the summer, it looks as if the clubs attention has turned to the Spurs attacker with Messi influencing things at the top.

So with Barcelona looking eager, here’s THREE reasons as to why Messi would want him at the club…

## Potential

It’s one thing for a player to be tipped for big things, but there isn’t any point in the claims if it isn’t implemented. Dele Alli, on the other hand, has been a revelation since joining Spurs from League 1 side MK Dons back in 2015.

Many thought he’d be one for the future, but he had other ideas, as he now becomes very much one of the best Premier League players of the present. At the young age of 21-year-old, he’s only just begun his footballing career, but having reached the heights that he’s touched already, there is no denying that he has the potential to become one of the world’s greatest.

Having scored 31 goals in 80 games from a midfield position at the highest level, many strikers don’t even achieve this record, which is why the young man’s natural talent has attracted the best.

So for a Barcelona side, who have seen the departure of Neymar in recent times, it would be silly not to be attracted to the services of the English attacker, with them knowing he has the ability to down their bitter rivals Real Madrid.

## The derail of rivals Madrid

Barcelona have always had a healthy rivalry with title competitors Real Madrid, as they battle it out in Europe and domestically in a match that is world renowned to be the ‘El Classico’.

However, it’s not only on the football pitch that they battle it out, as they often rival each other in the signature of high class players, with the latest being Spurs star Dele Alli, after he downed Madrid in the Champions League group stage.

Lionel Messi has always wanted to be one up on the Spanish rivals, so it’s not hard to see his logic behind signings the man. As well as welcoming his class and potential into the side, the sale of Alli for the Tottenham side would provide them with a whole heap of funds. This would then give them the incentive to go out and act on [rumours](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/659358/Real-Madrid-Gareth-Bale-Tottenham-Harry-Kane-swap-Man-Utd-Zidane-Perez-rumours-gossip-news) of a Gareth Bale return, as they would have created the space and money need to acquire the Welshman.

For a man that’s hurt the Catalan side many times before, they’d be happy to see the back of him.

## Established & immediate effect

Lionel Messi has struggled to find a business partner in the attacking line at Barcelona this season. The creativity of Neymar has seemed to become a miss, as he often drops deep to create in a new type of role for the Argentinian.

Alli has taken up the role of creator and scorer at Spurs on his way to impressive stardom at such a young age. Having scored 7 goals and assisted 1 already a quarter of the way into the season, it looks as if he’s all set for yet another 20 goal feat.

Having dropped of the face of the earth in the Champions League in recent times and finding themselves constantly being pipped domestically by Madrid. Lionel Messi has realized this, as he seeks Alli’s current form good enough to be the successor of players like Neymar to drive his side forward.

**So Spurs fans, thoughts?**
