Leeds United’s academy holds a prestigious reputation for producing talent of the highest quality, and one of the most recent success stories to emerge from Thorp Arch has been Lewis Cook.
Now plying his trade in the Premier League with Bournemouth, Cook (valued at £18 million by Transfermarkt) is slowly establishing himself as one of England’s most exciting young central midfielders.
The 21-year-old earned his first cap earlier this year during a friendly against Italy, but he will need to establish himself as a first-team regular on the south coast before he can dream of breaking into Gareth Southgate’s plans.
Leeds fans will be keeping a close eye on Cook’s development as he strives to establish himself at the highest reaches of the game, and it appears that plenty of them are holding out hope for his return.
Indeed, we asked the Whites faithful if they would like to re-sign Cook in the event that they win promotion this season, and an overwhelming majority voted yes.
At this moment in time a bid for Cook is completely out of the question considering the respective situations of both Leeds and Bournemouth, but that could all change next season.
If Leeds are promoted they will certainly need to bolster their options from back to front, and if Cook fails to establish himself as a first-team regular by the end of the season there could be a window of opportunity for Victor Orta to strike a deal.
And based on the result of our poll, there’s absolutely no doubt a deal which saw Cook return to Elland Road would be greeted with widespread enthusiasm.
