Ash Baker gives Sheffield Wednesday untimely injury concern

Sheffield Wednesday will return to Championship action on Friday when they meet Middlesbrough, but they could be without one of their first-team players.

The Owls have enjoyed a fair amount of success this season and currently occupy the final spot in the playoffs; a position that many would not have expected them to be in at the beginning of the campaign.

Jos Luhukay has used a number of players from the youth ranks in his senior side, with all of them impressing, however, it appears that he will now be sweating on the fitness of one man for their home clash against promotion-rivals Boro.

According to The Sheffield Star, Ash Baker is a doubt after he was ruled out of the Wales Under-21 squad with an apparent ankle injury.

The defender had to miss the Under-21 Euro qualifier against Switzerland on Tuesday evening and Wednesday will now be concerned that he may not be available for their game on Friday.

The Verdict:

Baker could be a big blow for Sheffield Wednesday and there will be concerns that the injury could be serious.

The defender has impressed for the Hillsborough outfit and will have been looking to continue with his excellent form, whilst the Owls will remain hopeful that he will be available for their game on Friday against Middlesbrough.

The 21-year-old has already featured for Luhukay’s side heavily this season and would be expected to remain in and around the first-team as the Championship fixtures start to come at a quicker pace.
