Leeds United supporters have been relatively quiet in the Transfer Tavern in recent weeks given their side’s disappointing run of form, which took another turn for the worst on Saturday as the Whites went down 1-0 at home to struggling Reading.
Thomas Christiansen’s men went into that clash with the Royals having lost three of their preceding four Championship matches, but had yet to lose at Elland Road having won three and drawn the other two of their five games. However, that record soon came to an end as a Mo Barrow strike six minutes from time was enough to seal a 1-0 win for Jaap Stam’s men, who also had goalkeeper Vito Mannone to thank after he saved a last-minute penalty from Pablo Hernandez.
Thus, several of our resident Leeds fans have been particularly down in recent times, but they are sure to be much happier now as the club have today confirmed on their official website that defender Luke Ayling has signed a new four-year deal with the Yorkshire giants.
The 26-year-old made the move to Elland Road back in 2016 after impressing in a two-year spell at Bristol City, and he has since become an integral part of the squad at Leeds, with 58 appearances in little over a year indicative of his consistently high-level performances.
And with starts in all 12 of their Championship clashes so far this term, Ayling continues to prove his worth to new head coach Christiansen, and he has been duly rewarded with a new contract that will keep him at Elland Road until 2021.
And it has stimulated quite a response from Leeds supporters on Twitter, with many absolutely delighted with the news….
