Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern still can’t believe what they’re watching after a former Argentina manager was announced as their new boss.
Highly-respected manager, Marcelo Bielsa, was unveiled as Paul Heckingbottom’s replacement and our regulars reckon he can guide the Whites to the Premier League. Bielsa has managed both Argentina and Chile as well as sides in Italy, France and Spain. The Argentine guided Athletic Bilbao to only their second European cup final in 2010.
Indeed, the former Lille coach certainly has the reputation as somewhat of a madman, though our punters have pointed out a transfer swoop that makes total sense.
Bielsa has a huge task on his hands to revamp the Leeds squad and transform them into promotion candidates. Defence will be an area of concern to the former Lille boss and signing a centre-back will be a priority. Adding experience to the side will also be a must.
To kill two birds with one stone, Bielsa should attempt to lure Leicester City defender, Robert Huth, to Elland Road. Valued at £2.25m by Transfermarkt, the German will leave the club at the end of the season following three superb seasons with the Foxes. He made 93 appearances after joining from Stoke City in 2014.
Huth was a key member of Leicester’s title-winning side alongside Wes Morgan in the heart of the defence. The 33-year-old was plagued by injuries last season but could prove to be a fantastic signing for the Whites.
He has vast amounts of experience at the highest level that could prove valuable in a gruelling Championship season. An old-school defender, his knowledge will be crucial to Bielsa in this transitional period. Available for free, it’s a no-brainer.
