Blackburn Rovers have shown enough promise at the start of the season to suggest they will stay clear of the drop zone under Tony Mowbray.
Indeed, Blackburn are sitting in a promising position after 10 fixtures with 15 points on the board and a playoff place in sight, but it is fixtures against the likes of Sheffield United which will define their season.
The Blades are a definite contender to finish inside the playoffs this season and they arrive at Ewood Park following back-to-back victories against Preston North End and Millwall.
But they conceded 2 goals in each of those victories so there are certainly defensive frailties for Blackburn to exploit tonight, and Bradley Dack’s performance could make all the difference in Lancashire.
Dack (valued at £4.5 million by Transfermarkt) is currently the club’s goalscorer with 5 goals and 2 assists from his opening 7 league fixtures, and the continuation of his fine form from League One would suggest that a Premier League move is certainly not beyond him.
The 24-year-old’s determination and natural ability to drift into space in the final-third are two qualities which will hold him in good stead to continue to thrive at Blackburn throughout the season, and he will fancy his chances of adding to his tally for the season against a leaky Sheffield United defence.
Blackburn will certainly not be expecting to finish inside the top-six this season but the manner in which they have started the season suggests they possess both the players and the manager to steer well clear of the relegation.
Victory over Chris Wilder’s men will serve to emphasise their credentials to hold their own at this level and even dare some supporters to dream of a shock push for promotion.
