Leeds United supporters in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to news that head coach Thomas Christiansen has been sacked after just eight months in charge, with Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Cardiff City proving to be the final straw.
The 44-year-old was a surprise choice to replace Garry Monk over the summer but he certainly made a decent start to life at Elland Road, leading the club to top spot in the Championship back in September. And although the Whites have been in and around the play-off spots since, their run of four defeats in their last six games has seen them slip to tenth place in the second tier, with Saturday’s 4-1 thumping at the hands of Neil Warnock’s Cardiff proving to be the final nail in the coffin for Christiansen, who was subsequently relieved of his duties on Sunday.
Subsequently, attentions have been firmly focused on who will replace the Dane in the Elland Road hotseat, and reports on Monday evening suggested that Barnsley chief Paul Heckingbottom is the club’s first choice to take over at the Yorkshire club.
The 40-year-old has been in charge at Oakwell since 2016 and in that time helped lead the club to 14th place in the Championship last season, and 21st place in the division after 30 matches this time round.
And it looks like the former Norwich City and Sheffield Wednesday defender is set to take over at Leeds, in news which has stimulated quite a negative reaction from Whites supporters on Twitter…

The manager of Barnsley? A team currently sat just above relegation zone and 17 points behind us?!? How is this going to make things better?
