It’s been a decent season so far for Chelsea, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that the second-half of the campaign will be even better. Antonio Conte is finally getting the best out of his team after a blip earlier in the campaign, and they’re now breathing down the necks of Man Utd in 2nd place.
Antonio Conte, though, seemingly still isn’t content with his playing squad. He’s already landed Ross Barkley, and according to Transfer Market Web, the Englishman could be joined by another midfielder this month.
Transfer Market Web report that Chelsea are keen on a move for Radja Nainggolan, who has been in the press for all the wrong reasons over the last week. He was dropped from the Roma team as a punishment for his antics over the new year, and, it is said, Chelsea could look to take advantage of the anger that his club currently have towards him.
A midfielder by trade, Nainggolan has impressed in Serie A for Roma over the last few years, displaying fantastic technical ability, quality on the ball and determination.
He’s rated at a massive £40.5 million by Transfer Markt, and that’s with good reason given his quality.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Nainggolan leave Roma. He’s often been in the news for non-footballing reasons, and so the Italian club could be open to selling him. That said, he won’t be a cheap signing, with Transfer Market Web stating that they will consider offers around the €50 million (£44.3 million) mark. Given that his market value sits just below that at £40.5 million, according to Transfer Markt, that would make for a pretty decent value signing for the Blues.
That being said, whether they should move for a player that clearly has behavioural problems is another matter entirely. Conte is a taskmaster and may be able to sort things out, but it’s certainly a risk.
However, he’s one of Europe’s best midfielders, and he’d be unstoppable in the Chelsea midfield if Conte can get him on the straight and narrow.
