Conor Shaughnessy suffers injury as Leeds’ injury concerns mount

Leeds United continue to be hit by an injury crisis as the Championship season gets into full swing this year.

According to a report by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Conor Shaughnessy had to be taken off with an unspecified injury during an Under-23 match for the Whites.

The defender was forced to leave the field in the second half against Sheffield Wednesday’s developmental side, however, it is not yet known how severe the injury is.

Leeds’ injury concerns are continuing to mount as a number of players are set to spend time on the sidelines, leaving Marcelo Bielsa’s squad even shorter of options than what he already had at Elland Road.

Patrick Bamford is expected to miss four months after picking up a serious knee ligament injury in a developmental game, whilst Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez, Jamie Shackleton, Gaetano Berardi and Izzy Brown are all still unavailable with medical concerns.

The Verdict:

Despite not yet knowing how long Shaughnessy will be out for, his absence will hurt Leeds.

The Whites are extremely short of options in defence and with Berardi already out, the Irishman would have been an ideal candidate to help ease Bielsa’s problems.

However, the Argentine took the risk of getting his senior players to play in the developmental side so they can get their fitness back up and it appears to have backfired on him once again.
