Derby County fans in the Transfer Tavern are still reeling following Aston Villa’s late equaliser to grab a point at the weekend, but they know a place in the play-offs is still within their grasp.
Gary Rowett’s side are two points ahead of Preston in the race to finish sixth and a point against Barnsley in their final game of the season should be enough to book their place. A sixth-place finish in the table will set up a tie against either Cardiff or Fulham.
Promotion to the Premier League would be massive for the Rams regarding transfer dealings with the allure of playing in England’s top division a massive factor when brokering deals. If they miss out on promotion, reinforcements are needed to challenge again.
Should Derby go up, one man they could look to is Liverpool youngster – Ben Woodburn. The Welsh forward is one of the Premier League’s brightest prospects after rising through the academy at Liverpool; he recently made his full Wales debut and netted his first senior goal.
Woodburn is valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, but there is no chance the Reds will allow their future star to leave permanently. A loan move could be the right move for both clubs as the Reds look to develop him, as well as Woodburn having the chance to play at a high-end Championship side.
The Rams would gain a highly-talented youngster capable of scoring goals and notching assists, and Liverpool would see Woodburn gain valuable first-team experience – look at how Harry Wilson is performing at Hull.
Even on a temporary basis, the 18-year-old would be a fantastic addition to Rowett’s squad.
