Derby County fans in the Transfer Tavern are over the moon as the Rams secured their place in the play-off with a place in the Premier League up for grabs.
Gary Rowett’s side will be the underdogs heading into their clash with Fulham, but anything can happen in the playoffs. Pride Park will play host for first-leg with a trip to Craven Cottage scheduled for four days later.
Promotion to the Premier League would be a huge benefit for the Rams in the summer transfer window as they would be able to attract a higher calibre of players as well as having more money to spend. One man they should target regardless of whether they get promoted is Arsenal youngster – Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The 20-year-old rose through the academy in North London but had a spell in Championship with Ipswich in 2016.
Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, he has made 13 Premier League appearances for the Gunners this season. But with Arsenal set to spend big in the summer window, he could find himself falling down the pecking order, and a loan move could be the best option.
Able to play a variety of positions in midfield, Maitland-Niles would be perfect for the Rams in either the Championship or the Premier League. He needs regular to game time to continue his development which may not be possible if Arsenal strengthen their squad.
Derby fans, thoughts?
