On June 2nd 2017, Portsmouth announced the appointment of Kenny Jackett as the club’s new manager on a two-year deal.
The former Wolves manager just missed out on securing a play-off spot during his first season at Fratton Park, but things have certainly taken a turn for the better in recent times.
A lot of supporters were over the moon with the club’s decision to appoint Jackett, as they took to the confirmation on Twitter to express their delight over the major news.

Kenny Jackett started off his managerial career at Watford. The Englishman assisted Graham Taylor in getting the Hornets promoted in two successive seasons, but he was later released.
After three years as an assistant, Jackett left Queens Park Rangers to replace Brian Fynn as manager of Third Division side Swansea City in April 2004. He managed to secure a number of trophies during his time in Wales and enjoyed a lot of success, but he later went on to depart by mutual agreement.
The 56-year-old managed to secure promotion to the Championship via the play-offs and made it to the FA Cup semi-final during his time at Millwall, along with ensuring constant progression. He then went on to take charge of Wolves, where he managed to break the points record during their title-winning League One campaign.
And, after being relieved of his duties at Molineux, he resigned after just 39 days in charge at Rotherham United.
On the 2nd of June 2017, Portsmouth appointed Kenny Jackett on a two-year deal. And, in November 2017, the club announced that Jackett had extended the original contract by a further two years to June 2021, after witnessing the club’s rise up the League One table.
However, he wasn’t able to secure promotion or even a play-off place during his first season in charge as they ended up finishing in eighth position. But, this season has been a whole different story as they currently find themselves leading the race for the League One title, with a five point gap over Luton Town.
It comes as no surprise that supporters lost their minds over the appointment of Kenny Jackett as he is one of the most proven managers in the Football League, and he is currently on course to secure yet another League One promotion at Fratton Park in the current campaign.
