Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has said that he is ‘protecting’ 17-year-old Emerson Hyndman from the rigours of a relegation battle, as quoted by GetWestLondon.
The Whites are not in a great position as they currently sit in 10th place in the Championship, just a single point above the relegation zone with nine matches remaining.
So what will Fulham fans make of such a statement given their current perilous position?
Well, the ones here in the Tavern certainly aren’t amused by it, they are in grave danger of dropping to the third tier of English football and need everybody pulling together to try and avoid the drop.
Fair enough, the club now face having to win at all costs over the coming weeks and it may not be pretty at times and maybe Jokanovic doesn’t see Hyndman’s game as benefitting from such a battle.
But the 17-year-old American is very talented and highly regarded, the sort of player that has the potential to turn a game on its head with a single piece of skill, and Fulham might also need that over the coming weeks also.
However, it pans out between now and May, Fulham are going to need points desperately and they are going to need everybody pulling together for the cause and the manager is paid to make such decisions.
He has a decent record in the Championship, he guided Watford to promotion last season, so although Fulham fans can, quite rightly, feel that it is not right they will just have to trust their manager’s judgement on this one.
