The Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are in a delirious mood this afternoon after witnessing the England U20’s bring home a stunning U20’s World Cup win.
Thanks to a goal from Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the Young Lions have rewritten history and their gong becomes only the second piece of silverware the national England team has ever won.
But why are the Newcastle fans so happy about it I hear you cry? Well, it’s because a big part of the win was young goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who’s second-half penalty save saw his team over the line in Suwon.
It’s a save that has helped write his name in history but it’s a save that also saw him bring him home the golden glove award for the whole competition.
And as you can imagine, social media has been rife with congratulations but it’s the Newcastle fans that are shouting loudest after a stunning performance from a player that they hope will continue his development and become a future number one at St James’ Park.
So with that in mind, here’s how Twitter reacted after the win, paying particular interest to the performance of young Newcastle star Freddie Woodman…
Remember the night Krul played in UEFA cup and was written off??? Why not give Woodman some game time next season? Looks a star!
