Derby County fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited at the prospect of a Chelsea legend being appointed as Gary Rowett’s replacement – our punters are hopeful he will be a success.
Frank Lampard is in advanced talks to the take the vacant manager’s job at Pride Park, with the club looking to announce his appointment in the next week according to the Guardian. He has been working as a pundit for BT Sport following his retirement from the professional game. It would be Lampard’s first venture into management.
His arrival will surely see Derby linked with a host of players from Lampard’s former clubs including Chelsea and Manchester City. The ex-England international will be remembered as one of Chelsea’s best players and should use his connection with the club to poach some of their best young talents. Arguably the brightest prospect in their academy is Mason Mount.
The 19-year-old spent last season on loan at Vitesse where he made 29 appearances. After scoring eight goals and notching nine assists, he was named their young player of the season. Valued at £1.8m by Transfermarkt, Mount would be an excellent addition to the Derby squad. Mount is a natural number 10 but can also play on either wing so could certainly learn an awful lot from his potential manager if he did move to the East Midlands.
It’s notoriously difficult to break into Chelsea’s first-team, and the Blues are expected to spend big in the summer after missing out on a top-four finish. A loan move would make sense for Mount and Derby should look to take advantage.
