Lawrence holds the key for Derby to break down tricky Boro defence

If Derby’s best victory of the season was their win against Man United at Old Trafford, Wednesday’s demolition of West Brom at The Hawthorns came very close.

Frank Lampard’s men were extremely impressive against a West Brom side that have looked strong recently. The win took them to fifth in the table, only two points behind leaders Leeds. Unfortunately for The Rams, it doesn’t get much easier today, as they have perhaps their toughest match in the Championship so far this season, Middlesbrough away.

Tony Pulis’ team sit in second place in the league, and are an extremely tough team to break down, as are all teams managed by the Welshman. The Boro have only conceded two league goals at home this season, and they were both in the same game against Nottingham Forest, so Lampard will know that he has his work cut out for him.

However, Derby are looking particularly lethal in attack, and one player that is looking very dangerous at the moment is winger Tom Lawrence. The 24-year-old had a field-day midweek against The Baggies, as he ran rings around Craig Dawson, bagging a goal in the process. He would be foolish to think that he will have it quite so easy today, but he is nevertheless showing the quality that can trouble any defence in the league. He will need to be at his best today if The Rams stand any chance of coming away with points.

A win today will see Derby overtake Middlesbrough in the league, and if other results go their way, they could even end up top of the Championship ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the League Cup midweek.
