Charlton Athletic were beaten in an eight-goal thriller by Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night, however, the Addicks received a bigger blow on the pitch.
Lee Bowyer’s side were on the wrong end of the result against the Irons, having lost 5-3 at Glanford Park but things were already looking bleak within the first three minutes.
Lewis Page had to hobble off the field with an apparent groin injury, as he had been suffering with one over the last few weeks.
The left-back has had a woeful time when it comes to the sidelines, having spent around a year trying to recover from numerous issues.
“Something has popped there,” he told London News Online.
“It’s not looking good for him. Obviously, it’s too early to tell but it’s definitely not good for him or us because we don’t have any cover down that side. Nobody naturally anyway. Naby (Sarr) would normally be his cover but he’s playing centre-half because we don’t have any other centre-half. Otherwise we’d put Naby left-back.
“The only good thing is after Saturday we’ve got the international break so that gives us an extra two weeks to try and get him back fit.”
Page’s latest blow will be devastating to him and Charlton as they look to win promotion from League One.
The Addicks left-back would have been hoping all of his injury woes will have been behind him, however, it appears that he could be about to spend even more time in the physio’s room.
The 22-year-old’s latest setback will also be concerning for Bowyer as he has admitted that he does not have the options available to him for the defender to be covered suitably.
