Leeds United have enjoyed a strong start to their Championship campaign as they continue to push towards promotion to the Premier League.
The Whites find themselves in a promising position after making an impressive start to this season, with their summer signings beginning to gel nicely. Indeed, Marcelo Bielsa hasn’t changed too many things around so far this season in terms of his team selection, but a busy schedule could cause problems when it comes down to fitness.
It’s important that the Argentinian can now find a settled side, but he may need a lot of luck to do so as injuries can impact his match selection.
So, in an ideal world where Leeds United have a fully fit squad with no injuries or suspensions to speak of, here’s an idea of what Bielsa’s strongest XI would look like…
LEEDS UNITED’S STRONGEST POSSIBLE XI
We’ve gone with a 4-4-2 formation, as that is the formation that would benefit the players that Marcelo Bielsa currently has at his disposal, with the two wingers pushing up and both strikers working tirelessly to hold up the ball.
Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper are both suffering from respective injuries at this moment in time, but they would be the ideal partnership for Bielsa to go with as the season progresses due to their experience and quality. Also, summer bargain Barry Douglas has already shown his qualities by providing an assist on the opening day of the season, while Luke Ayling has found himself amongst the goals.
In midfield, the likes of Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips will try to control the flow of the game and often link defence to attack. Either side of the two central midfielders would be Samuel Saiz and Pablo Hernandez, who are two of Leeds United’s standout performers from last season and will play a huge part in their push for promotion.
Lastly, the Whites’ strike partnership would involve the prolific Kemar Roofe and summer signing Patrick Bamford. The latter hasn’t really been given many chances but he has looked impressive during his limited minutes on the field, and managed to opening his goalscoring account in the Carabao Cup against Bolton Wanderers.
