Go back to January and things weren’t quite as positive among the Leeds fans as they are now. Granted, the Whites were yet to have their major collapse and were still hoping for a top-six spot, however, after Thomas Christiansen was sacked, things went very downhill, and the links to Carpi striker Jerry Mbakogu, who’s today been released, summed up that time.
Bizarre this – after spending the summer trying to sell him to Leeds for seven figures, Carpi release Jerry Mbakogu on a free https://t.co/nb7YApN9C7

Back when Leeds were showing an interest in the striker, the Italian club was quoting The Whites with a seven-figure sum and now that he’s been released by the Serie B club, it’s clear for all to see that he struggles to command even a six-figure fee. You’d like to think that the Elland Road faithful were never going to shell out the asking price for the striker, especially considering the fact he only managed to bag six goals in 26 Serie B games last season.
Now, though, with the 25-year-old Nigerian-born forward sitting as a free agent, there would be some irony in it if he made the move to the Yorkshire club, even he was only used as a squad player in the domestic cups. This summer has already seen Bielsa shell out on a striker when he made the move to sign Patrick Bamford from Middlesbrough and with Kemar Roofe putting in a barnstorming display against Stoke on Sunday, the club seems to have their striker problems resolved.

A lot of Leeds fans would be keen to snap up the big man now he costs nothing, but it’s unlikely that will happen given his rather lacking goal return.
