Leeds fans on Twitter loved their team’s mass press against Wigan

On Sunday, Leeds United overcame Wigan Athletic 2-1 at The DW Stadium in a game that The Whites were desperate to win. However, there was one moment in the game when the score was at 2-1 that had the Leeds fans buzzing. During a Wigan counter-attack, Josh Windass broke with the ball over the halfway line, only for seven Leeds players to surround him and crowd him out.

In terms of the result of the match, this moment was hardly significant, but that’s not the point. The Whites loved seeing the team effort and desire from almost all of their outfielders to get back and help each other out. It was a moment that simply wouldn’t have happened 12 months ago and it’s a testament to the way that Marcelo Bielsa has set his side up this season and how willing his players are to die for each other.

Whilst having a group of quality of individuals always helps, what Leeds have is more than that. The team spirit in the dressing room is huge and it was there for all to see when they faced Wigan. Not only did Bielsa’s side fight back from 1-0 down to win the game on the road, but they also showed that they had the ability to defend as a collective as they regained top spot in the Championship after Norwich City had briefly taken it from them with their win on Saturday.

The Whites are loving life under Bielsa and will hope there is more of this to come throughout the season.
