Yesterday saw Carlos Corberan’s Leeds U23 squad travel to Crewe Alexandra and lose 3-1 on a disappointing afternoon. The Whites young side had a few big names in it, including Samu Saiz, who a lot of Leeds fans were surprised to see turning out at that level.

Saiz is yet to hit top form for The Whites this season under Marcelo Bielsa and despite the fact that he’s one of the club’s most talented players, he’s failed to live up to expectations under Elland Road’s revolutionary Argentine. Meanwhile, a lot of other players have stepped up their game and shown that they can cut it at the top of the Championship, hopefully, Saiz can sort himself out but at the moment things aren’t looking good.
The 27-year-old midfielder joined the club from Huesca in summer 2017 and in his first season at the club he looked to be a very impressive signing with his nine goals and eight assists from midfield proving important for the club as they struggled to a midtable position. Now, though the Whites have been expecting him to kick on and improve under Bielsa but that simply hasn’t happened, which has now seen him drop down to the club’s U23s where his impact still isn’t being felt.

Surely the point of the U23s is to let the non first team players develop

Saiz needs these games to regain the confidence. Hasn't looked right since opening month of season.

When your U23 squad is stronger than some of the first team squads put out in the last few years! #MOT

The Whites were shocked to see Saiz in the U23 squad and will hope that the Spaniard can sort himself out and start performing again as soon as possible.
