Leeds fans take to Twitter to rave over Halme’s first senior goal

Being a central defender, Aapo Halme probably wouldn’t have expected his first senior goal for Leeds United to come in what was just his 5th senior appearance for Leeds United yesterday. However, that’s exactly what happened as the 20-year-old defender was alive to the rebound when Matt Ingram spilt the ball from a Lewis Baker free-kick.

The youngster will be delighted with his first ever Leeds United goal, and even though his strike wasn’t enough to take the Whites onto victory, it will still be a day to remember for the impressive young centre-back who has shone in the Championship when called upon this season. The next step, though, will be to help his side to promotion and then shine in the Premier League.

At the moment, the Whites will be dissecting their loss away at QPR, but most fans are buzzing that they’re out of the FA Cup as it means less games will be played, and that means less chance of injury and less fatigue for their players. As things stand, Halme and Pontus Jansson are Marcelo Bielsa’s only fit central defenders, so keeping them available as they aim to get the likes of Liam Cooper back will be key.

The Leeds fans were delighted for Halme with his first senior strike, but will hope his second one can be a winner of some sort in the league.
