Much to the excitement of Leeds fans, there’s another transfer rumour coming into the Tavern.
As of yet, new boss Marco Bielsa hasn’t signed any new players but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from linking the Yorkshire club with a plethora of players. The Sun reported earlier this week the former Leeds man, Sam Byram is on his way to Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan deal.
The Leeds academy graduate hasn’t progressed like he might have desired since making the move to the Premier League club in 2016. The 24-year-old has managed 36 appearances in two-and-a-half years for the Hammers and last year suffered a muscular injury which caused him to only make 10 appearances last season.
The right-back seemingly doesn’t have much of a chance to break into Manuel Pellegrini’s side, especially with the arrival of new signing Ryan Fredericks on a free from Fulham. Nottingham Forest are keen to give the 24-year-old a chance back in the Championship and Aitor Karanka is very eager to bring him on board.
On the face of it, it might seem stupid for Leeds to bring him back but with Lewis Coyle being sent on loan to Fleetwood Town on loan until January. Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson would likely form Bielsa’s back three. Byram, however, would be able to play on the right side of the three and also as a wing-back.
As he’s coming off an injury, Byram wouldn’t need to play a load of games straight away but over a long and gruelling Championship season, the young defender could add a lot to Bielsa’s side.
