Leeds United supporters will be used to the feeling of the Championship having been there for sometime now but with new manager Thomas Christiansen at the helm, there’s a real wave of optimism flowing around Elland Road ahead of kick-off this afternoon.
The Whites fans drinking at the bar here in the pub seem to think a slightly left-field appointment might stand them in good stead, just as it did with David Wagner at Huddersfield Town last season.
But he and the Leeds United supporters will know that this division shouldn’t be taken lightly in the slightest and it’s arguably looking tougher than ever.
Christiansen has brought in some good players in over the summer, albeit some of them being a slightly unknown quantity here in England but he’s certainly aiming high and feels he can take the club back to the Premier League.
“I hope we’re on the way back and I hope I can be the one who can take them back (to the Premier League),” he told Sky Sports.
“It’s a big club, you can see it with the support and fans they have. I heard it’s already sold out for the first league game at home, which is amazing.
“It looks like the fans are a little bit more optimistic for this season, which is good. It brings a bit more pressure but I like to have this pressure on me,” Christiansen added.
Leeds United are a big club and have been lingering in this division for far too long.
The heartache of missing out on the play-offs last season will be fresh in the minds of all Leeds fans ahead of their season opener this afternoon.
Christiansen has gone for a different approach to transfers but should it work, Leeds could be a real force to be beckoned with this campaign.
