Leeds United remain top of the Championship table after an excellent start to the Marcelo Bielsa era.

The Whites made a blistering start to the new campaign, picking up impressive victories over Stoke, Derby and Rotherham as well as knocking out Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup. Bielsa’s men also showed terrific heart to battle back from two goals down against Swansea to rescue a draw. Most recently, they absolutely battered Norwich City away.

Despite the window slamming shut two weeks ago, Leeds can still add to their squad with temporary signings until the end of the month. Bielsa was dealt a huge blow against the Swans as defender Liam Cooper was forced out with injury in the warm-up – he joins Pontus Jansson on the sidelines. Bielsa was forced to use natural full-backs Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi in the centre and should definitely seek to add another defence to his squad this summer.

The perfect signing could be former FC Porto defender – Diego Reyes. Valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, Reyes is available on a free transfer after being released by the Portuguese champions. He made just 12 appearances in Liga NOS last season but still managed to score two goals and pick up an assist. His best form came in 2016 with Real Sociedad where he made 27 appearances in La Liga, averaging 2.1 tackles and 3.9 interceptions per game.

Reyes is primarily a centre-back but is extremely versatile and would add cover to right-back and defensive midfield. The 25-year-old is a huge aerial threat, winning 2.5 aerial duels per game on average last season. Reyes also loves playing out from the back, completing 87% of his passes last season (WhoScored). Remarkably, the defender has earned 55 caps for Mexico, and his international experience could be vital as Leeds look to finally secure a return to the Premier League.

If he can stay fit and rediscover the form he showed in Spain, Leeds could have bagged the bargain of the summer.
