The Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern are encouraged by recent reports which claim they are closing in on the signing of Abel Hernandez, as they believe his arrival would help them to take a huge step towards a genuine push for promotion.
According to a report from Leeds Live, the Whites are closing in on a bargain free transfer for Hernandez (valued at £6.3 million by Transfermarkt) this month as they aim to build a squad capable of mounting a genuine promotion challenge next season. The report claims that the Hull City striker has held productive negotiations directly with Andrea Radrizanni who has managed to convince him to move to Elland Road with financial incentives.
Regardless of how Radrizanni has managed to put Leeds in pole position to secure a hugely promising deal for the club, the supporters should be feeling positive about their future aspirations as the Uruguay international’s arrival will undoubtedly help the club to challenge for a top-six finish.
Despite spending the vast majority of the campaign on the sideline with an achilles injury last season, Hernandez managed to notch 8 goals and provide 2 assists from just 10 appearances for Hull City, so clearly he is a player who possesses a natural eye for the back of the net.
The presence of a clinical striker can so often prove to be the difference between a promotion challenge and a mid-table finish in the Championship, and the fact that Kemar Roofe – a winger by trade – finished as the Whites’ top-goalscorer in the league last season serves to emphasise that notion.
Naturally, Leeds will need further acquisitions throughout the squad as Hernandez cannot carry the club to promotion single-handedly, but his arrival will represent something of a coup and encourage other talented players to join him in Yorkshire this summer.
With that in mind, Radrizanni should do everything in his power to agree terms with Hernandez as soon as possible to give the club a significant boost ahead of the new season.
