Leeds United managed to secure three valuable points away from home at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United yesterday.
The Whites currently find themselves in an automatic promotion place after yesterday’s impressive victory, with a four point gap over Middlesbrough in third position. Although, the Yorkshire club did suffer a potentially huge setback on the injury front, as according to Yorkshire Evening Post, Liam Cooper is set to undergo medical scans after picking up a serious looking injury against Sheffield United.
Worryingly, the 27-year-old centre back is facing the possibility of surgery despite manager Marcelo Bielsa being unaware of what the actual issue is.
Indeed, the club are currently sweating over the results of the impending assessment, which could have a negative affect on their push for promotion.
Sadly, the Whites are short on numbers in defensive areas, with Pontus Jansson and Aapo Halme being the Whites’ only other two out-and-out options at the heart of the defence.
Liam Cooper has been one of the standout performers for the Whites in the current campaign as their leader at the heart of the defence. The central defender was starting to form a formidable partnership at the back with Jansson, but it now looks as if the inexperienced Halme will have to slot in his place.
Leeds United could potentially suffer a huge setback, depending on how long the defender is out for, as he could even be set to miss the rest of the season if he requires surgery.
So, with Leeds struggling for options at the back and with their captain set for a period out on the sidelines, these are worrying times for the football club.
