Middlesbrough fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping the club brings in reinforcements this summer after losing their Championship Play-off semi-final to Aston Villa last season.
Boro finished fifth last time out after Tony Pulis replaced Garry Monk as manager in December and will be gearing up for another promotion push in the coming season.
However, it seems as though they will lose defender Ben Gibson to a Premier League side this summer, with Bournemouth, Everton and Southampton all reportedly interested.
The 25-year-old is valued at £8.7M by Transfermarkt and was called-up to the England squad in March 2017. His transfer would leave a hole at the heart of Boro’s defence but would also free up funds for Pulis, so there would at least be one positive to take from it.
The Mirror (live transfer thread, June 19 at 20:06) have reported that Boro are ready to bid £5M for Bristol City’s towering centre-back Aden Flint and are willing to go higher to secure the 28-year-old.
The 6ft6 Bristol City man fits the mould of a Tony Pulis player. His strength and ability to read the game offset his lack of pace and he is certainly a threat in the opposition box, scoring 9 goals in all competitions last season.
If Gibson does leave the Riverside this summer then Flint could be the perfect replacement to organise the Boro defence.
