‘Liquidate now’ – Leeds United fans on Twitter react to latest embarrassment

The Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to their club’s 2-1 loss against the Myanmar National League Allstars whilst on tour in Myanmar. The highly controversial tour featured the Yorkshire club playing two games, with the next match being this Friday against the Myanmar National team in Mandalay.

Whilst the organisation and timing of the tour has been shambolic, losing to a team comprised of Myanmar National League players is the icing on the cake for The Whites. The club are only on their post-season tour of Myanmar because their majority shareholder, Andrea Radrizzani wants to increase the exposure of his company, Eleven Sports into Far East Asia, as he already has contracts in both Singapore and Thailand.

The major controversy with the club travelling to Myanmar is the recent genocide of Rohingya Muslims from the country. Over the last year thousands of Rohingyas have been forced out of the country and killed, and fans of the club were advised against travelling to watch their side play due to the dangers in the country. Despite the fact that fans were being given this advice, the tour went ahead and now the Leeds players will have to play one more match in Myanmar as well as hold coaching sessions for local children.
