It remains to be seen whether Darren Moore will strengthen his West Bromwich Albion squad in the upcoming transfer window.

The Baggies were relegated from the Premier League last season and have made a great start to life back in the Championship. A brace from Jay Rodriguez secured victory against Wigan recently and kept their automatic promotion hopes alive. West Brom remain just three points behind Norwich in second heading into the busy January period.

There aren’t any areas of the squad that desperately require strengthening in the upcoming transfer window. However, a few more additions could give the Baggies the boost they need to secure a return to England’s top division at the first time of asking. Adding defensive cover could be a wise move by Moore.

One man who the Baggies could target is Defensa star – Lisandro Martinez. Valued at £5.4m by Transfermarkt, the Argentine began his professional career at Newell Old Boys before joining Defensa on loan. After impressing during his temporary spell with the club, his move was made permanent for just £500k in the summer. During the current campaign, Martinez has taken his game to the next level, impressing fans with his excellent showings.

The 20-year-old loves to get stuck in and would add further steel to the West Brom back four, averaging 1.8 tackles per game in the Primera Division. Despite his young age, Martinez reads the game exceptionally well, averaging an impressive 2.9 interceptions per game in the league this season. The left-footed defender is also a massive threat in the air, helping his side’s cause with three goals already this season as well as registering three assists (WhoScored).

Martinez is developing rapidly and could be a huge success if the Baggies secured his signature.
