Luis Enrique drops Tyler Roberts’ name ahead of Wales clash

Luis Enrique drops Tyler Roberts’ name ahead of Wales clash - Championship

Leeds United have suffered with injuries over the course of the current season and it has given some of the club’s youngsters a chance to impress.

Marcelo Bielsa has been in the unfortunate position of having a number of his key men being made unavailable as they have had to spend time on the sidelines, which has forced him to look at other options.

One man that appears to have benefited from the opportunities that have presented themselves is Tyler Roberts, who has been tasked with leading the line on numerous occasions for the Whites this season.

His performances have earned him an international call-up to the Wales squad and it appears his ability has not gone unnoticed across Europe either.

Speaking ahead of their game, Spain boss Luis Enrique dropped Roberts’ name into the conversation when he was asked about Gareth Bale’s absence.

“It seems a sensible move due to the injuries he (Bale) has had, but it is a positive move for Spain,” he told Wales Online.

“We have analysed Wales with Bale in the team, and he has great speed, but it does not change anything for us.

“They have good, young players, like Tyler Roberts, and we know it will not be easy.”

The Verdict:

The name drop by Enrique will likely have given Roberts a sense of confidence and one that could only go on to benefit Leeds this season.

The 19-year-old has started the campaign well under Bielsa already, having netted three times in six Championship outings and with a place in the Wales set-up, he would have already been bouncing.

However, a comment like the one from Enrique, who has managed and played for Barcelona in the past, will surely only help Roberts push on further, therefore making the Whites attack that more dangerous in the future.
