Marcelo Bielsa admits he does not know how bad Pontus Jansson’s injury is

Leeds United fans will have been left seething following their defeat to arch-rivals Sheffield United on Saturday as their chances of winning automatic promotion to the Premier League appear to have taken a blow.

And, it appears Marcelo Bielsa’s side may have been dealt another damaging blow in terms of key personnel as the Championship season reaches its final stages.

What’s the News?

Pontus Jansson appeared to pick up a knee injury in the game against the Blades, although he did manage to finish the game – albeit in goal following Kiko Casilla’s late sending off.

However, when questioned about the knock, Bielsa admitted that he was not sure how bad the problem could be.

In his post-match interview (via Leeds Live), he quite simply said: “I don’t know”.

The Verdict:

As mentioned, Jansson managed to finish the game, so there will be some hope that the injury to his knee is not significant and will mean he remains available for the remainder of the Championship season.

Valued at £5.4million by Transfermarkt, the Sweden international has been a crucial member of the Whites and if he were to miss any of their upcoming matches, it would likely come as a huge blow to their promotion hopes.

The 28-year-old has put in a number of important contributions with his efforts on the pitch, making him a real favourite at Elland Road, however, his presence in and around the dressing room is also something that is likely to be extremely important at the club.

With games against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa still to come, everyone associated with Leeds will be wishing Jansson is all okay.
