Marcelo Bielsa states Gaetano Berardi will be out for “a long time”

Leeds United will be preparing for their game against Wigan Athletic on Sunday afternoon as they look to keep their promotion ambitions alive.

The Whites currently find themselves second in the Championship, however, they will play in the last game of this weekend’s schedule and will look to keep the pressure on the rest of their rivals.

However, it appears as though some bad news has started to emerge for Marcelo Bielsa’s side as they could be without one of their key men for a significant period of time.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, via Leeds Live, the Argentine has revealed that Gaetano Berardi is expected to be on the sidelines for a long time.

“A lot of time. It’s not a simple injury,” he said.

“I don’t know how to explain it, the level of the tendon, the muscle, went to the other body. The muscle had turned around the tendon.

“But I will ask the head of medicine to give you the information because I know I made a mistake explaining it. I’m just repeating what I’ve been told and maybe I’m not precise enough.”

The Verdict:

Berardi’s latest setback will come as a huge blow to Leeds and Bielsa as the injuries continue to pile up for the Whites.

Berardi, who had only just returned from an injury, joins Luke Ayling on the sidelines with what could be for a significant period of time, although the club will have been boosted with the return of Barry Douglas.

Although no timeframe has been revealed, Leeds will be hoping it is not too long and he will be back before the beginning of the festive period.
