Fans of Leeds United must be feeling rather confident of their chances of returning to the Premier League next season following another vital three points on Saturday afternoon.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side, who have not yet lost a game when they have gone in front, kept the pressure on Norwich City and with just ten games to go, they sit two points behind the Championship leaders.
The Whites may have been handed a blow in their promotion-chasing efforts, however, the Argentine appears to have calmed any concerns down with his latest update.
What’s the News?
Both Patrick Bamford, who scored the only goal of the game, and Kalvin Phillips picked up knocks during the game, with the former needing to be substituted in the second half.
However, Bielsa told Leeds Live that he felt the players would be available for their next fixture against Reading on Tuesday.
“We’ll see by Tuesday how they are. They will be available, I think. It wouldn’t be convenient to anticipate their real situation,” he said.
The news that the duo could both be available for Leeds’ match against Reading will come as hugely positive to fans and the club’s chances of maintaining their fine form in the Championship.
Bamford has already missed a large part of the season with a serious injury, but appears to be finding his feet and is starting to get goals that will certainly help the Whites in the absence of Kemar Roofe whilst Phillips has been a key figure in the midfield for Bielsa’s side this season and has put in a number of impressive performances for the team.
The news that both are expected to be available will also be welcomed as the club have a number of challenging games coming up in the next few weeks – including a match against Sheffield United that could decide who goes up automatically and who will need to try and get through the playoffs – and Leeds have been down to their barebones at times because of injury.
Having their key players remaining in contention will only help to strengthen their chances of winning promotion to the Premier League at the end of the campaign.
