Monk has brought the good times back to Elland Road but Leeds shouldn’t rush into anything after Swansea collapse…

The Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern are at their happiest in years after watching Garry Monk bring the good times back to Elland Road at last.

It seems like it’s the first time in forever that the Whites propping up the bar have smiles spread across their faces as they wax poetic about the notion of a Premier League return. Monk, in stark contrast to former club former club Swansea City amid all of their struggles, is on a wonderful run, despite a slow start to life in Yorkshire.

So it’s little surprise to see the 37-year-old recently hinting at a long-term project with the club. As exciting as that notion initially sounds, the club do need to be a tad careful in rushing into anything silly.

Monk’s time at Swansea City was largely lauded, though the Jack Army propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern know all too well just how quickly that ended. Perhaps it wasn’t all his fault, though top brass at Elland Road should at least look into goings on in south Wales.

Rushing into anything, simply after a good season, could have further severe implications should things take a sour turn. Taking this season game-by-game and seeing just how high they can finish is surely a better step, rather than simply signing their lives away after a few good months.

Leeds have been through so much over the past few years, they cannot afford to rush into what could potentially be a false dawn. As negative as that sounds and as promising as the signs are under Monk, they need to analyse and not swing from one extreme to another.
