Mowbray opens up on why he doesn’t rank Blackburn achievement highly

Blackburn Rovers fans in the Transfer Tavern will be delighted that their side has managed to achieve promotion back to the Championship.

The Ewood Park outfit will return to the second-tier at the first attempt following their last day relegation last season, with Tony Mowbray’s future in doubt.

However, talks with the club’s owners in India proved to be positive and he was offered a new two-year deal to remain at the club, where he has helped secure promotion with two games to spare. Mowbray has admitted that he will not be carried away with what he has achieved and stated that he expected it to happen.

“From my point of view, it’s just my personality, I don’t get carried away with anything,” he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“If we had got promoted to the Premier League the other night I would be the happiest man in the world going into the best league in the world.

“All we achieved is getting promoted out of League One.

“That doesn’t rank that highly in my list of personal achievements.

“Blackburn Rovers shouldn’t be in League One so while the achievement is great, it’s not high on my achievement list because I expect it.”

Landlord’s Verdict

The Blackburn fans in the Tavern will be delighted that the club’s stay in League One was only temporary and will be hoping they can be competitive in the Championship. Ultimately, the punters in the bar will want their side back into the Premier League, although they will know the second-tier will prove to be difficult once again.
