Newcastle could revive the fortunes of £19.8m-rated out-of-it striker if they sign him this summer

The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have gone from hoping the season won’t stop to wanting it to finish immediately after failing to continue their good form in recent weeks.

Nevertheless, Rafa Benitez has done a terrific job in securing Premier League football for the Magpies next season and should this continue, funds need to be available to back the Spaniard.

One risky but potentially rewarding transfer Newcastle should look at is bringing Crystal Palace forward Christian Benteke to the club. The big, Belgian striker is valued at £19.80 million on Transfermarkt but having endured a rather disastrous season this year, his stock seems to have drastically plummeted.

At 27, Benteke’s Crystal Palace career is now in doubt after scoring just 3 goals in 29 appearances as well as proving high maintenance to deal with. Having cost the Eagles around £30 million a couple of years ago, Benteke may now look to bag a move away and Newcastle could be a grateful home for the Belgian.

The Magpies have had massive striking problems of their own but because Benteke has been so good in the past, it may lead Newcastle to believe that they have the abilities to revive his fortunes and for him to become a star at St James’ Park.

Landlords Verdict:

Whether Newcastle have the capabilities to deal with Christian Benteke is a hard question to answer but a cut-price move could see Newcastle reap the rewards should the Belgian come good again. The Magpies must look at the 27-year-old as an much better alternative to their current options and see that despite a poor season, Newcastle could be just the club to give him the platform to succeed again.
