The Newcastle fans within the Transfer Tavern are happy to see that Rafa Benitez is prepared to stay at St James’ Park, reliant on Mike Ashley stumping up the cash so that the Magpies can continue on their upward trajectory.
In truth, the Newcastle fans dread to think about where they would be without the Spaniard in charge and given that they have a quality manager, it should be about time they also had some quality players on the pitch for Benitez to utilise.
A fast start to the season and a glorious end has meant that Newcastle are around mid-table, a tremendous achievement given their squad on paper. Rafa Benitez has shown what he can do now with big funds at teams such as Liverpool and Real Madrid, and now small funds on Tyneside.
This should earn him the right to choose his signings this summer, one of which the fans are hoping for is Xherdan Shaqiri, who is valued at £16.20 million on Transfermarkt. The Swiss international has been the glimmer of hope in relegation doomed Stoke City, having scored 7 goals and created 6 for his team-mates. With the Potters facing the likely possibility they will go down this season, teams are already swarming around Shaqiri in the hope they can get a quality player for a cheaper price.
At only 26, Shaqiri has proven his ability with Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and now in the Premier League with Stoke. For sure the winger is a Premier League level player and with Newcastle’s successful season in mind, why shouldn’t they rival others to the signing of a top player?
After all, Shaqiri is a massive upgrade on the wingers currently available at St James’ Park…
