According to The Nottingham Post, The Reds are interested in signing Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton on loan this month.
The 3-cap England international had been linked with a number of Championship clubs, including Aston Villa and Leeds, a few months ago after spending the first half of the season on the bench at Turf Moor behind Joe Hart.
However, the 32-year-old has been given a rare start by manager Sean Dyche in recent weeks, which may be an incentive to stay with Burnley, despite the return of fellow England goalkeeper Nick Pope.
From Nottingham Forest’s perspective, this would be a bizarre move, as Costel Pantilimon has performed admirably between the sticks so far this season for The Reds, and is perhaps not the first name that the fans would drop. While the club may well be a bit thin on the ground when it comes to replacement goalkeepers, Heaton would surely not be willing to join Forest as a back-up ‘keeper.
Had the Englishman joined Leeds or Aston Villa, it seemed more than likely that he would be a regular starter at either Elland Road or Villa Park. That would not be a guarantee, however, at the City Ground, which makes this move seem increasingly unlikely.
This is wishful thinking from the senior figures at Nottingham Forest, and they should try and prioritise other areas of the team that need more urgent attention, such as their defence. For now, they have a decent ‘keeper in Pantilimon, and should back him.
