Nottingham Forest fans in the Tavern are hoping that Aitor Karanka will bring in the right faces in the summer and push The Reds into a fight for promotion to the Premier League.
Forest added over ten new players to their playing squad in January, and the signings are expected to continue when the transfer window reopens in the summer. Blackburn recently confirmed their promotion back to the Championship and Forest could make an audacious effort to take one of their key players.
Captain Charlie Mulgrew has been crucial for Rovers in the heart of the defence after leaving Celtic in 2016 and played a huge role in their triumphant return to England’s second tier.
The 32-year-old is valued at £900k by Transfermarkt and has plenty of experience in the Championship, which would be extremely valuable to Forest. If they’re going to push up in the league, Karanka needs some hardened warriors.
The Scottish international is equally as adept in the centre of midfield, proving he can be a versatile option if Karanka can pull off this audacious transfer deal.
Blackburn are unlikely to allow their captain to leave for a Championship deal but if Forest can put together a squad capable of challenging for promotion, Mulgrew could be tempted to move to the City Ground.
The move seems reliant on Mulgrew’s preference to stay with his current club or look for a new challenge.
