Leeds United momentarily put ‘spygate’ to one side yesterday to confirm the signing of Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid but there is plenty of reason to suggest that he will not be the only player to walk into Ellland Road this month.
The loss of both Lewis Baker and Samu Saiz this month has forced Leeds’ hand in regard to their transfer policy. Throughout the course of the season, Marcelo Bielsa has constantly peddled a line which downplays the importance of signing new players in January, but with a thinning squad and a multitude of injury problems to consider there’s no doubt he will be hoping to bring in at least one more player before the window slams shut.
If recent reports are to be believed, it would appear Leeds are in the market for a new wide player, with Daniel James and Callum O’Dowda both cited as potential targets this week.
But Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay moved to clarify where Leeds’ core interest lies on Friday, revealing that the Swansea youngster is the club’s number one target, with O’Dowda considered an alternative.
same situation. James number one target but yet to meet his valuation. O’Dowda on the list of alternatives.

With plenty of time remaining in the window to meet James’ valuation Leeds are under no real pressure to meet his valuation, but it’s likely that the hierarchy will be eager to avoid a last minute scramble to secure his signature at the end of the window
James is relatively unproven at this level but if he gets Bielsa’s approval then the Leeds supporters will have absolutely no problem in harbouring high hopes for his future.
Leeds may have lost two players in central positions but the addition of a new wide man should ensure a permanent role for Pablo Hernandez at number ten, and his influence in the hole with exciting young talents either side of him – including the likes of Jack Clarke, Jack Harrison and potential James as well – could make the decisive difference as the Whites push for a top-flight return.
