Leeds United were in dreamland once again on Boxing Day as the Christmas season treated them to a late present at Elland Road.

Blackburn Rovers have already inflicted one defeat on Leeds this season and it looked like they were set to record the double over the promotion-chasing side yesterday when Charlie Mulgrew's free-kick squirmed through Bailey Peacock-Farrell's hand to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

It was a sweetly struck strike from Mulgrew but the young goalkeepers failure to push it round the post underlined his lack of experience at this level as inconsistency continues to frustrate the supporters.

With that said, it's no surprise that reports regarding the signing of a new goalkeeper have dominated the club in the build up to the January window, particularly those linking Leeds with Newcastle United's Karl Darlow.

And a further layer of substance was added to those reports this morning as Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay confirmed that Leeds are hoping to wrap up a deal for a new goalkeeper early in January, with Darlow cited as a prime target.

Darlow moved to St James' Park from Nottingham Forest in 2014 in a £4.5 million deal, but he has struggled to cement his place in the first-team throughout his time at the club, and the arrival of Martin Dubravka looks to have sealed his fate.

The Slovakian stopper has been in exceptional form since moving to Newcastle in January, and his place as the club's number one has been firmly cemented following a series of fine performances.

Darlow's availability combined with Leeds' hope to sign a new goalkeeper and his experience in the Championship make him a great option for the Whites, and the fact Hay has publicly confirmed their interest will be music to Leeds supporters ears.

Whether Leeds will be able to wrap a deal up quickly or not remains to be seen, but Hay's admission suggests a new signing might be just around the corner.
