Potential consequences: West Brom move for James Tavernier

West Brom, like a number of their Championship rivals, have found that their campaign so far emulates a rollercoaster in terms of the results they have gone through.

Some weeks ago, the Baggies look destined to return to the top flight of English football right away but others show maybe the Championship is their level.

West Brom regardless are a solid team, filled with good players and ones that are willing to try hard for the club.

Alike all clubs though, there could be improvements, which the Daily Record (via the Birmingham Mail) suggest could come in the form of James Tavernier.

Having been linked with the Rangers captain over the summer, it seems the Baggies are desperate to get what would be a great signing on board.

What could the potential consequences of this move be…

Matt Phillips must improve to remain in the starting 11

On his day, Phillips is a lot to handle for a defender and with four goals this season, he’s been doing well in the Championship.

James Tavernier though, will not want to play second fiddle and wants a spot in the starting 11 straight away.

The Englishman has once again been brilliant for Rangers and with eight goals and eight assists already this season, it’s easy to see why West Brom are such keen admirers.

Defensively more stable

In a new-look system West Brom have been playing, they opt for three centre-backs and then wing-backs on either flank who provide support in defence and attack.

Tavernier is an experienced right-back for Rangers and when given the opportunity, as shown by his goal contribution this season, he likes to get forward.

The 27-year-old isn’t scared of putting in hard work and would get back as much as he gets forward.
