Pundit’s Choice: Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez

The Championship season has started in compelling fashion with Leeds United leading the charge with 18 points thus far, but they face a true test of character this evening at Hillsborough.

Indeed, Bielsa’s unbeaten start to life as Leeds manager came to an end last weekend after Birmingham City recorded a 2-1 victory at Elland Road.

A first defeat of the season has done little to rattle the optimism of the Whites faithful, but a second straight defeat tonight will evoke fresh questions regarding their mentality.

Ahead of the eagerly anticipated fixture David Prutton delivered his pre-match prediction (via Sky Sports) and, perhaps to the surprise of some, he tipped Sheffield Wednesday to record a 3-2 victory over the league-leaders.

Wednesday come into the clash on the back of a well-fought 2-1 victory over Aston Villa last weekend and they will fancy their chances, especially given Leeds’ mini injury crisis.

Indeed, Prutton has cited the absence of both Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez as a key reason for Leeds’ defeat against Birmingham City last weekend, and the implication is that they lack the firepower to return to winning ways tonight.

Tyler Roberts demonstrated his potential with a fine brace against Preston North End 10 days ago, but with little by way of experience at this level he cannot be expected to deliver performances of that nature on a consistent basis.

Meanwhile, Man City loanee Jack Harrison has been improving whilst deputising for Hernandez, but once again a lack of experience may well count against him in tightly contested fixtures against promotion rivals.

Bielsa faces his biggest test of the season tonight without two of his key attacking players and it will be fascinating to see his players fare against the Owls.
