Wolves supporters in the Transfer Tavern are still basking in euphoria having appointed the experienced Nuno Espirito Santo, yet they look set to miss out on the transfer of a prominent striker.
The club has begun their transfer activity with purposeful intent, having already secured the signature of three new signings. Ryan Bennett, Roderick Miranda and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh have all been obtained to strengthen Santo’s defensive options, yet the Wanderers look set to miss out on one of the hottest properties in the Championship.
Britt Assombalonga, who scored 14 goals for a struggling Nottingham Forest last season, will not be joining after Wolves journalist Tim Spier rubbished any speculation.
The news will come as a blow to several Wolverhampton supporters, as Britt Assombalonga is widely perceived as one the division’s best strikers when fully fit. Renowned for his excellent heading ability and lethal finishing, the striker was viewed as an ideal replacement for Andreas Weimann who is returning to Derby following a disappointing loan spell with Wolves.
Wolves fans in the Transfer Tavern have turned to Twitter in their many to express their sadness at the news:
Am told there’s nothing in the Britt Assombalonga rumours. #wwfc

Shame. We could do with a striker who scores more than 4 a season.

Why you have to be that guy

Real shame, as I think Assombalonga is a quality player!!

There wouldn’t be. Sad as he’s a proven goalscorer and just the type of player we should be after.
