Roberts’ opener against Oxford has got Leeds fans excited

On Tuesday evening Leeds United lost 4-3 in a friendly fixture against Oxford United. Whilst the result itself is shocking, the fans are taking positives from the game and one of those is the stunning strike from young Tyler Roberts to open the scoring.

Roberts is a name that many Leeds fans will know of but not a face that many of them will have seen. The striker joined the club from West Brom in January but he spent the season out injured after being diagnosed with a cracked shin bone. His opener against Oxford was his first goal for the club and the fans believe that it’s just the first of many for the 19-year-old striker.

The goal itself wouldn’t have looked out of place in a Champions League final given the quality of it. An overhit corner was kept alive but Jack Clarke on the left side of the box before the 17-year-old laid the ball off for Roberts on the edge of the box. Roberts feined to his right and went to the left, creating himself space and selling the Oxford defender. He then took another touch inside the box before releasing a lovely effort into the top right-hand corner, giving the keeper no chance.
