Sheff Wed team news: Onomah on verge of returning as Bruce prepares for Blackburn

What a difference Steve Bruce has made at Sheffield Wednesday! Unbeaten in ten Championship matches, with seven clean sheets and the possibility of winning a playoff spot to the Premier League! Should Wednesday be able to keep that form going against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon and pick up another victory, they could potentially close the gap to just a point.

However, with injuries having been somewhat of a problem at Hillsborough this season, they will remain a concern for Bruce as they prepare to entertain Tony Mowbray’s side.

What’s the News?

According to the club’s official website, Lucas Joao and Fernando Forestieri both remain unavailable for the Owls as they recover from respective knee and hamstring issues.

But, there is some positive news as Josh Onomah is on the verge of returning to action after the international break, whilst Gary Hooper is set to play a friendly next week in an effort to step up his recovery.

Sam Winnall could be put in the starting line up after making six substitute appearances as he works his way to full fitness after a lengthy spell on the treatment table.

The Verdict:

Things have been going extremely well as of late for Sheffield Wednesday and the Owls must be feeling confident that they can continue their fine form when they host struggling Blackburn on Saturday.

As mentioned, a victory could be huge for Bruce’s side in their pursuit of a playoff place, as it would put them in serious contention with just eight games of the campaign left to go following the tie.

Obviously, the injuries to the likes of Forestieri and Joao did not help things, however, they appear to have managed to get by without them recently with the likes of Steven Fletcher, who has been in terrific form.

The news that Onomah could return in the near future will also be pleasing as Bruce will know how to get the best out of the Tottenham Hotspur loanee as the pair worked together during their time at Aston Villa, where the youngster played an influential role last season.
